Definition:

A function within an organization that is accountable for the some dimension of controls that apply across all areas of the organization.

Commentary:

Control functions a typically a second-line of defence. Responsibility for the implementation of controls resides with business units and functions. The control function defines the requirements of the controls, assists with their implementation and verifies their ongoing operation
