Data Cataloging

Definition:

Data cataloging is the ability to discover, organize, relate, govern and distribute information of the data assets in an enterprise. The information related to data assets may include classification, ownership, authoritative data sourcing, data lineage, data profiles and quality, entitlement, data access and usage purpose tracking, data lifecycle tracking, data protection need, privacy requirements, and residency details. The scope of cataloging is driven by the business needs and all data processed by data management services in all in-scope environments (cloud or on-prem) should be cataloged in an organized way.
