Data Owner

Definition:

The person with overall accountability for the meaning, content, quality and distribution of a given set of data.

Commentary:

The Data Owner is accountable for the quality of a given data domain or set of data. This includes the quality of the data as well as how the data is defined, manufactured, identified, maintained, delivered and consumed. The Data Owner may not be directly involved in the curation and maintenance of the data, but they are accountable for ensuring that it meets quality criteria and is in alignment with organizational standards.
