Portal Tutorial

Wisdom of the Crowd

The DCAM Knowledge Portal is a community of EDM Council member practitioners dedicated to the advancement and adoption of industry-standard Data Management processes, tools, and constructs based on the DCAM Framework. Working with you and other practitioners, together we will create practical HOW-side executions for Data Management. The wisdom of many is greater than one.

Organizing Knowledge

The Knowledge Portal organizes best practice based on the EDM Council DCAM Framework. All content aligns with the seven DCAM components in the framework.

DCAM Framework

The Knowledge Portal includes fully digital delivery of the DCAM Framework.

The Data Management Business Glossary is integrated into the portal content providing a mouse-over definition of all terms defined in the glossary.

The DCAM Framework represents the WHAT – what is needed to have a successful data management initiative.

The Knowledge Portal content is designed to take this to the next level and define the HOW – and to do that collaboratively with Council members and industry experts. The resulting knowledge is aligned with the DCAM Framework.

Knowledge Base

A complete listing of Forums and Best Practice categorized by the seven components of DCAM.

This is just the start. The Knowledge Base is the structure to organize our collective experience and formalize best practice to support a consistent, repeatable and sustainable data culture in our organizations.

Forums

The Knowledge Forum is a set of open discussions across multiple topics, organized by the DCAM Framework components. Forums are a place to dialogue with other member practitioners about the challenges and successes organizations face executing the DCAM Framework.

Articles

A collection of best practice articles, processes, tools, and constructs organized by the DCAM Framework components providing how to detail and insight.  All best practice in the Knowledge Base has been vetted by data practitioners and approved by the DCAM Governance.

All best practice has a Comment feature. Please share your feedback to support continuous improvement.

Models

Leveraging the Solidatus modeling tool, a collection of models establishes relationships between the DCAM Framework and regulatory requirements and the best practice tools and constructs. The resulting relationship visualization accelerates understanding and decision making.

DCAM User Group members have free access to read-only versions of these models. To obtain an editable version of the model that is customizable to a specific company or organization, members can purchase an extended Solidatus Pro License.

DM Business Glossary

The DM Business Glossary includes all terms and definitions that have been defined by the EDM Council.

The terms are aligned to one or more of the seven DCAM components. Many terms also have tags that create sub-groupings of related terms (e.g., data architecture, roles & responsibilities, provisioning, metadata, governance and data quality).

Any time a glossary term is used in the Knowledge Portal, it will be shown as a hyperlink that has mouse-over access to the definition. Users are encouraged to provide feedback on the current terms or propose new terms.
